WISE 2019—REVIEW

Thanks to everybody who came to the 2nd edition of WISE on May 18/19 2019!

Since the first edition in October of 2018 WISE tripled attendance. A total of 1200 people participated at the WISE Conference at UCCA and the two REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL concerts of 8 bands (The Hormones, White+, CHAGALL, David Boring, Catnapp, Lows0n, Jungstötter & Mavi Phoenix) at the Danish Cultural Center, DCC.

Over 80 companies and institutions from 15 countries took part, more than 30 media partners reported and listened to 45 Chinese and international speakers. Over 100 matchmakings between the Chinese and the European music industry took place courtesy of Reeperbahn Festival. And Beijing´s tech- and creative community came out in droves to get connected.

Special thanks goes to the German Federal Foreign Office for its generous support and to everybody else, who made the second WISE a success. Stay tuned for the next edition.

REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL X WISE

This year WISE added a two-night music program, presented by the Reeperbahn Festival, and hosting free live showcases of Europe's biggest music platform with some of the most promising musical talents from Europe and China.

From the newly selected participants for Rap of China Lows0n (Xiamen) via David Boring's Art-Punk (Hong Kong), Modeselektor's new Electro-Grime protégé Catnapp (Germany), to China's next indie-hope The Hormones (Chengdu), music-tech pioneer CHAGALL (Netherlands), the Nick Cavish indie-ballads of Jungstötter (Germany), Mavi Phoenix’s (Austria) refreshingly poppy take on hip hop, and China’s electronic legends White+ (Beijing), the program was poised to cross boundaries and genres.

Six out of eight acts were female-led, making WISE X Reeperbahn Festival the first event in mainland China to partner up with Keychange, an European Initiative aimed at ensuring a balanced gender ratio in the music world. Empowered by the exchange program with Reeperbahn Festival, 20 additional European delegates at the crossroads of music and technology were able to participate WISE.

INTRODUCTION

From 18 – 21 September 2019, the Reeperbahn Festival will present more than 900 events spanning a range of genres in locations around Hamburg’s Reeperbahn. Since its debut in 2006, the Reeperbahn Festival has grown to become one of the most important meeting places for the music industry worldwide, and, as Europe's largest club festival, it boasts a broad spectrum of emerging and more established artists.

REEPERBAHN FESTIVAL CONFERENCE

Reeperbahn Festival is Europe’s B2B platform for the music and digital industry. The Reeperbahn Festival Conference offers industry professionals a program that includes more than 300 sessions, networking events, meetings, showcases, and award shows. They expect around 4,700 professionals and media representatives from 56 countries attending.

SESSIONS

Talks, panels, keynotes, presentations, and workshops are all a part of the Reeperbahn Festival Conference sessions program. At this year’s conference, top international speakers will address issues relevant to the music industry, its submarkets – recorded music, live entertainment, and publishing – and related sectors in the digital economy. The sessions program is curated by an independent committee of industry experts.

SHOWCASES

Each year labels, partners, and music export offices showcase their new and aspiring artists at the Reeperbahn Festival, providing a great complement to the festival’s curated concert program. We’re expecting about 40 German and international showcases that will present exciting bands and solo artists to a large audience of fans, media representatives, and trade professionals.

NETWORKING

The Reeperbahn Festival Conference is one of the most important industry platforms in Europe and provides attendees with an opportunity to meet and network with international representatives from the music industry and the digital creative economy. The central location for business meetings and receptions is the Reeperbahn Festival Lounge in the ARCOTEL Onyx hotel. In addition, parties, get-togethers, dinners, and cocktail events hosted by our partners are held in a number of nearby Reeperbahn venues. The Reeperbahn Festival Conference networking program also includes targeted Matchmaking Sessions during which participants meet one-on-one with potential business contacts.
